Local Loan Disbursement

The biggest category of beneficiaries of students loans are senior six (6) leavers. These are selected basing on the academic performance at the high school national examinations. Normally a cut-off mark is set and all students who obtain a mark above the cut-off mark automatically become eligible for the bursary/loan to study in any of the public higher learning institutions of their choice. This may be criticized with an argument that not all of the students who obtain a mark above the cut-off mark actually need or deserve the loan. Besides, this limits students to take courses not necessarily of their choice because they will loose the funding if they don't accept the course or HLI in which they are placed. SFAR attributes the loan type LL to students enrolled in local HLIs. The loan LL comprises a subsistence support and a research support.
